Global auction house to launch five-week online course from Sept 17

September 10, 2019 (IANSlife) Global auction house Christie’s has announced a new five-week online course “History of Watches: 1700 to Now” from September 17.

The video-based course in English will cover the development of watches from their first appearance in the pocket to today’s wristwatches that bring together incredible science, engineering and incredible artistry.

The course, written and presented by independent watch consultant Dr Andrew Hildreth, explains how watches work, and also introduces to learners their exterior design, the brands that have produced them, as well as the market for vintage watches.

Horology enthusiasts can learn the features of the mechanical watch through custom animations, as well as hear first-hand about the development of the industry from prestigious designers and historians. The course introduces the most important and remarkable stories in watchmaking and opens up what might be considered a complicated subject to a general audience.

The online course includes exclusive video interviews with Emmanuel Breguet of Breguet, Pascale Lepeu of Cartier, Stephen Forsey of Greubel Forsey, Richard Mille and collector Eric Ku on Rolex, elaborating on the brands’ inspirations, philosophies and achievements.
