As women across the country observe Karva Chauth, we present one sweet and one savory way to break the fast

October 17, 2019 (IANSlife) Health conscious on Karva Chauth as well? Here’s your solution as we got Quaker Oats to share some easy to make healthy recipes to break you're your fast on the sighting of the moon. 

A recent study by Shaadi.com  to understand the belief systems of singles about the rituals and customs of festivals resulted in 67 percent males and 63 percent  females saying ‘Yes’  they believed in celebrating Karva Chauth. Of the Single men  who were asked if they would want their partner to fast on Karva Chauth, about 60 percent said that it was her choice and that if their wife was fasting would they like to do something for her? 87 percent said they would.  

But back to food, here is one sweet and savory recipe to try out:

Quaker Oats Namakparas

Ingredients

  • 20g roasted and powdered Quaker Oats*
  • 30g refined flour
  • 5g oil
  • salt to taste

 

Preparation

  • Add seasonings and roasted Quaker Oats* to maida. Rub in oil. Make a stiff dough using water.
  • Roll the dough flat to 1/8” thickness and cut into namakpara shapes.
  • Grease the baking tray and bake them till golden brown.
  • Store in air tight jar.

*For powdered Quaker Oats, roast Quaker Oats for 2-3 mins. Cool and grind in a mixer.

Ingredients

  • Quaker Oats* (roasted and powdered) 50g sugar 35g
  • khoa (grated and mashed) 15g ghee 5g
  • almonds (powdered) 15g cardamom (powdered) 1

 

Preparation

  • Boil sugar and water to make syrup.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and roast Quaker Oats* powder till it gives aroma.
  • Add khoa in the pan and cook for few minutes on slow fire with continuous stirring.
  • Add sugar syrup. Cook it again with continuous stirring on slow fire till the mixture leaves
  • the side of the pan.
  • Remove from the fire and add almond powder and cardamom powder.
  • Spread on a greased thali and allow it to cool.
  • Cut into burfi and serve.

*For powdered Quaker Oats, roast Quaker Oats for 2-3 mins. Cool and grind in a mixer.
