Los Angeles, Sep 27 (IANS) Actress Stana Katic's series "Absentia" has got a greenlight for a third season.

Amazon has given a formal season three pickup to its thriller "Absentia", which is executive produced by Katic. It will debut in 2020 exclusively on Prime Video in the US, as well as in select markets globally, reports deadline.com.

Filming on the third season of "Absentia" is underway in Sofia, Bulgaria, with new executive producer and showrunner Will Pascoe, who is known for "Orphan Black" and "Shut Eye".

Pascoe will succeed season 2 showrunner Samantha Corbin-Miller.

"Kingsman: The Secret Service" actor Geoff Bell and "Wonder Woman" Josette Simon have joined the cast.

"Absentia" is about a FBI agent Emily Byrne (Katic). The new season will open three months after the dramatic events of season two with Byrne nearing the end of her suspension from the FBI and working hard to be the best possible mother to her son. Her life will take a turn when Nick Durand's (Patrick Heusinger) criminal case will hit too close to her home. She will go on a dangerous journey, and learn the value of love and trust.

Katic had been hinting at the renewal by posting photos with the series' writers and pictures from Bulgaria from quite sometime.

Bell is set to play Colin Dawkins, a professional fixer for an international criminal organisation who is polished, while Simon will portray Rowena Kincade, a former instructor at Quantico and career intelligence agent with MI5 and MI6.

It will also star Neil Jackson, Matthew Le Nevez, Natasha Little, Paul Freeman and Patrick McAuley. The series is executive produced by Katic, Pascoe, Julie Glucksman, and Kasia Adamik, who also serves as a director. Greg Zglinski also directs the show, which was created by Gaia Violo and Matt Cirulnick in the first place.
