October 15, 2019 (IANSlife) Even as he juggles with the press events and promotions for his new book, The Anarchist, William Dalrymple is also displaying his photographic works at the Vadehra Art Gallery.

This is Dalrymple’s second outing, after his much-celebrated debut show titled the Writer’s Eye in 2016. Titled The Historian’s Eye, this stunning exhibition of black-and-white photographs, chronicles people, places and their inter-relationships through the historian’s lens. Dalrymple shot these photographs during his travels across the country over the last two years while researching for his latest book.

The exhibition, which will continue till October 31, also features places where art and history were being made in the 18th and 19th centuries and includes a small selection of photographs from modern-day Pakistan.

Photography was the authors first love, the artistic outlet of his youth. The collection of pictures far from being snapped by expert equipment come from a single Samsung Edge camera phone, which led to his re-discovery of the medium. Dalrymple’s approach to photography is intuitive and instinctive, while his aesthetic reflects the sensibility of economical prose, resulting in stark, high-contrast images that highlight an intermingling of the monumental past and fleeting present. Each photograph reveals a narrative tension within itself, between stillness and movement, history and reality.
