September 11, 2019 (IANSlife) Cinema has been a constant source of inspiration for designers across the world. This time designer duo Lecoanet and Hemant are inspired from classic Hollywood iconography, inspired by its glamour. Taking inspiration from the mise-en-scène of vintage posters, the distinct design of Art Deco and dramatic visuals full of elegance and emotion, they effortlessly blended these styles into modern, everyday fashion.
“I’m so excited myself and love going to the movies. Old Hollywood is my childhood dream; its what I love to wear and its all sorts of glamour. Our brand is focused on ‘wearable glam’ because we live in times that are so glum and there is nothing to celebrate nowadays; at least we get to celebrate this,” says Hemant.
The collection was a showcase of tunic-dresses with tapered ribbon detailing; tailored suits paired with wide-legged pants and a Genes Logo T-shirt; breezy kimonos with tape accents worn over slim-fitting pants and crisp shirts layered over short-sleeved dresses which make for statement day-wear. For a night out on the town, they had sequined tuxedos, cinched jumpsuits and glamorous dresses that are easy to style with bold, red lips and sky-high heels.
“We have used black and white, it’s very urban for people who have this understanding of small luxury, like boutiques and luxury hotels. Indian couture reflects our tradition, its perfect just as it is; it’s part of our rich heritage and we all give homage to it. But its not daily wear; what happens to the rest of the year? You can’t afford to be sloppy the rest of the year. My point of view is you live 365 days a year so it’s not about looking your best once a day, it’s about looking your best everyday,” says the designer.
