Paresh Rawal is NSD’s new Chairman

Recipient of the Padma Shri honour, he has had a successful acting career in Gujarati plays -- the latest one being ’Dear Father’

September 12, 2020 (IANSlife) President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed veteran actor Paresh Rawal as the new Chairman of National School of Drama (NSD). He will be taking over the position from theatre artist Arjun Deo Charan.

Known for a huge body of work in the Hindi film industry, Rawal was a BJP Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Ahmedabad East (2014 to 2019).

Born and brought up in Mumbai, the actor debuted in a supporting role in the 1985 film‘Arjun’ but it was the movie ‘Naam’, released in 1986 that brought him much attention.

Recipient of the Padma Shri honour, he has had a successful acting career in Gujarati plays -- the latest one being 'Dear Father’.

Through the 80’s and 90’s, he has appeared in hundreds of films including the cult classic ‘Andaz Apna Apna’. The 2000 Bollywood film ‘Hera Pheri’ made him a household name with the newer generation too. He has also acted in Telugu films.
