August 30, 2020 (IANSlife) For debut author Soundarya Balasubramani, her book did not begin as that, a book, but as a missing link for students wanting to study abroad. In her own words, she wanted to create a short, 10-page guide to help students who wanted to study abroad. As she began researching through, she soon found out the lack of - and need of - a comprehensive guide on this topic.

"But instead of writing a book that instructed the reader on exactly what to do, my team and I took a different approach. We used the virtue of graphic design, mental models from other domains, testimonials from past graduates, and my own stories to write and design a book that teaches the reader how to think instead. 'Admitted' is not just about helping you get your dream admit. It's also about preparing you for the next phase in your life," says Balasubramani, who holds a a master’s degree from Columbia University, New York and a Gold Medal from NIT Trichy up her sleeve.

Her debut book, 'Admitted: The Missing Guide to Craft a Winning Application & Study Abroad' is an all-encompassing book that covers the end-to-end process of getting an admit and preparing to study in a foreign country.

"The pandemic certainly put a dent on many students’ dreams. But once things stabilize, universities abroad will be even more welcoming to receiving international students, given how important they are to the universities’ lifeline and country’s economy. Hence, I urge students to treat this time as more runway to prepare; to take up online courses, gain more certifications, intern at startups, and work on side-projects. Make yourself more valuable and interesting. There is no reason for you to stop, because the world did so,” says the author.

The book provides critical information on every part of the journey: crafting a resume, writing a statement of purpose, preparing for competitive exams (GRE, IELTS, TOEFL), picking the right university, preparing for interviews, applying for scholarships, and more. It also lays bare lesser-known information about student loans and visas, post getting an admit.

The author added that 100 percent of profits from the sales will go towards helping the underprivileged get access to education. The book is available at: admittedthebook.com.
