May 09, 2023 (IANSlife) Sunburns, tanning, breakouts, and dryness are more common in the summer, and the skin can also get dry throughout the summer. Increased humidity increases the likelihood that more oil will be trapped on the skin's surface. Dr. Sandeep Babbar Medical Director and Dermatologist from Revyve Skin, Hair and Nail Clinic, Faridabad provided some handful tips to help with preparing for the summertime.

Never skip sunscreen- You must apply sunscreen to any exposed skin before leaving the house. Indian heat necessitates a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least a 40 SPF or more. Apply sunscreen on your lips, hands, feet, arms, neck, ears, hands, and body. Use again every 3 to 4 hours. It is preferable to use lightweight, gel-based formulas.

Exfoliation is necessary - Although there is a fine line between exfoliation and over-exfoliation, summer is the best time to remove dead skin cells, particularly if you have oily skin. Exfoliation unclogs clogged pores, gets rid of oil, and calms down the skin. Apply a strawberry or orange peel face mask to gently exfoliate your skin and remove any dirt and dead skin cells that may have gathered in your pores over time. This will make your skin look younger and more beautiful.

Moisturize with Vitamin C serum - Your skin still requires moisture to keep healthy, even if it is prone to being oily in the heat. Pick a mild moisturizer that won't clog pores, is suitable for your skin type, and is lightweight.  Use a good vitamin C serum and moisturizer as part of your routine to fight hyperpigmentation, enhance collagen formation, minimize fine wrinkles, and prevent tanning. You just need a few drops on before the moisturizer,

Apply ice occasionally - Applying ice to your face once in a while can assist to reduce skin puffiness and keep the balance of your skin healthy. It soothes the skin and aids in moisturizing it. Another advantage that should be noted is the cooling sensation.

Hydration is the key - In the summer, keeping your skin hydrated and healthy requires drinking lots of water. Consider including hydrating foods like melons, cucumbers, berries, oranges, which are high in vitamin C, apples, kiwis, smoothies, water, and coconut water in your diet. Also aim for eight glasses of water a day. Reduce your protein consumption, and avoid sugary foods.

“Weather changes almost always result in changes to the skin, and regardless of skin type, everyone notices a change in their complexion as the seasons change. However, your skincare regime should also be flexible enough to accommodate these variations. In conclusion, a summer skincare routine is necessary to maintain healthy, moisturized skin during the warmer months. With the help of these recommendations, you may take use of the sun's benefits without being concerned about the damage it may be doing to your skin” concluded Dr. Sandeep Babbar.
