March 5, 2020 (IANSlife) If there is one question commonly asked by all the brides-to-be, it is ‘what fabric to choose for bridal lehenga’? A wedding lehenga is very close to every girl’s heart, so it must be carefully chosen, designed, tailored, and presented. But with the fast-changing trends, one is expected to be confused while choosing the fabric. If you haven't yet finalised your wedding outfit, here is a last minute guide to some of the best-known fabric for Indian wedding dresses, underlined by Mayank Jain, Managing Partner, Greenways.

Pro tip: Evaluate each fabric based on how well it suits your body figure and how much it will weigh.

Satin Silk

If you wish to not spend on an expensive fabric like pure Silk, you have Satin to the rescue! It is smooth, doesn't tingle the skin and create a beautiful flare as well since it is likewise lightweight. Satin silk lehengas are a marvel and give you that radiant look, without having to compromise with the quality.

Royal Velvet

No one has ever gone wrong with velvet for their winter wedding look. It wraps well and adds an imperial touch to the look. As it is thick in nature, it functions admirably when it's cold. In fact, it looks far superior with their significant artwork as the look and feel of the material is itself rich. You could choose from an assortment of shades of maroon, dark red, and green for your big day.

Brocade

The ancient weavers have done an admirable job in preserving the rich culture of brocade and yet managed to create a fresh look for the 21st century woman. As opposed to traditional brocade which would come with themes of marigold, lotus and shikargarh, we have more colors and silhouettes available today.

Banarasi Silk

Gone are the days when Banarasi silk was only restricted to the seven-yard Indian saree. Today, more bides are choosing Banarasi for their wedding outfits because of how they are intricately designed, particularly for an event as critical as walking down the aisle.

Georgette

Georgette comes in sheer and murky textures. As compared to other similar fabrics, georgette is thick, strong yet lightweight. It keeps you cool and comfortable all through the wedding. The best thing about Georgette is that it looks incredible on all sorts of body type. However, if you are a plum shaped bride, opt for intricate designs as opposed to a petite body frame who should prefer heavier and larger work.

Just as much the fabric matters, the kind of work matters too. While there can be a ton of sorts and kinds of lehenga fabric to look for, you can pick between the embellished, weaved or hand-designed ones for other functions of your wedding. Or you could settle for a combination of any two.

Pro tip: If you choose heavy work, make sure the texture is silk or velvet. As Georgette or Chiffon are not suitable for work like Zardosi.
