March 6, 2020 (IANSlife) Fashion designer Reza Shariffi, who has been working with the best artists of the Indian film industry since 30 years now, recalls that Madhuri Dixit as Chandramukhi in the 2002 movie ‘Devdas’ was a very inspiring character to design for.

“Dola Re Dola for me will remain an all-time favourite outfit. What makes this outfit special is, besides being an elaborate outfit, it was a dance costume. Both I and Madhuri were focusing on her comfort during dancing.

“Madhuri used to stand for nearly two hours every single day when the saree, jewelry and accessories were almost stitched on her. It is one of the most celebrated outfits of Madhuri from ‘Devdas’,” Shariffi told IANSlife.

Madhuri Dixit is a nominee for the Sony MAX2 Timeless Digital Awards, which recognises characters of Indian cinema that are iconic and unforgettable till date.

About the Bollywood designing in the 80’s and 90’s, Shariffi feels these bygone decades were “ruled by the three iconic ladies Sridevi, Madhuri and Juhi”.

From traditional Indian to out and out western looks these ladies rarely disappointed you, he added.

Asked which iconic movie character has inspired him the most, Shariffi names Raj Kapoor’s timeless ‘Joker’ look in 1970 drama film "Mera Naam Joker".

His favorite character costume?

“The green bridal outfit for Tanuja Trivedi (Kangana Ranaut) in ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘Ghani Bawari’ outfit in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ are my favourite character costumes.”
